Australian Building and Construction Commissioner V Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (Cfmeu)

Federal Court of Australia

Judgment Date:
2017-10-23

Abstract:
The Federal Court of Australia (FCA) has imposed a penalty on a union in the amount of $100,000 for preventing a worker from accessing a construction site for the worker's refusal to join a union. The FCA held that the courts would not tolerate workers from being coerced into joining a union.
